# Huntly: the product we build and run ourselves

Huntly is our own app for family quests at attractions. Fairwood Lakes, Farmer Palmer’s and Mendip use custom quests to get families exploring, spread visitors around the site and support fundraising.

Our own live product

- **Product:** Huntly, built and run by the Fluff team

- **Used by:** Fairwood Lakes, Farmer Palmer’s, Mendip and others

- **Key call:** No extra staff needed to run a quest

- **Why it matters:** We live with our own software in production

## The situation

Attractions want families to explore more, stay longer and come back. At Farmer Palmer’s the challenge was making sure visitors found every part of a sprawling site. At Fairwood Lakes it was giving children a reason to explore the park and encouraging repeat visits. At Mendip, a quest also had to support fundraising.

## What we questioned first

- **Who runs it on a busy day?** Nobody needs to. Families download the app before or during their visit and start whenever they like, so a quest adds no staffing.
- **What does each site need?** Each quest is designed around the site: leading families to every attraction at Farmer Palmer’s, out to the lakes and hidden spots at Fairwood Lakes.
- **What keeps children going?** Challenges and digital badges, like the exclusive Fairwood Lakes badge families earn at the end.

## What we built

Huntly is a live consumer app we design, build, release and support ourselves, with custom quests for each attraction.

## What changed

At Farmer Palmer’s the quest helped spread visitors more evenly across the site and encouraged families to find quieter spots. At Fairwood Lakes it gave families a structured way to explore the park and a reason to come back.

> We have no problem during school holidays but we were looking for something to encourage more visitors all year round. The Huntly app allows our visitors to do a quest at any time of year. It enhances the visit, gives them a reason to stay longer and encourages them to spend more.

**How we’d work on this today.** Few agencies run their own live consumer product. Huntly means we deal with app stores, real users, support and updates ourselves, and that experience goes into every client’s queue. [For visitor attractions](https://www.fluff.software/for/visitor-attractions/)
